The Oak of Rudaičiai
The oak growing in the village of Rudaičiai in the district of Klaipėda is the grandchild of the sacred oaks. A sacred hill of Alka stands in this place. It was once all covered with oaks and altars under them. Sacred fires used to be kept there, and sacrifices offered to the pagan gods.
It was believed that the smoke of the oak wood logs are very healthy, and the fire gets rid of illnesses and bad smell. Priests used to observe the summer solstice from this hill planted with oaks.
The oak of Rudaičiai grown out from the acorns of the sacred oaks in the former pagan temple can be found at the fringe of Kretinga district, in the village of Rudaičiai.
